Hamwells e-Shower Saves Water While Offering a Massage

Just when I was beginning to think that my shower experience was lacking the technological advances that have streamlined every other aspect of my life Hamwells swoops in to save today! In fact, if they have anything to say about it, we can expect a high-tech shower experience in the very near future.

The e-Shower launched this week at TechCrunch Disrupt London, showcasing a standing shower that will massage you while saving water. The device attaches to most standard showerheads and works by recirculating the water you have already used.

Sound a little gross and unhygienic? Well, it's not! The truly ingenious part of the system is the mixing filter. The e-Shower's filtration system takes the water you've used and sucks it back up into the shower. First the used water is filtered and mixed with fresh water from the mains, and then shot through with UV light. This new gadget allows you to save up to 90 percent of the water you'd normally waste down the drain!

According to CEO Rob Chömpff, who is head of marketing at VNU Exhibitions, “A traditional 10-minute shower requires 100 liters of warm, clean water. This precious resource is used only once before it flushes down the drain. This collective habit is unsustainable because worldwide droughts and shortages are on the rise.” For those of us seeking to make our homes all electric and energy neutral, this device offers an alternative to heating water through expensive solar panels and electric boilers, as it uses significantly less water for the same duration of showering. Not to mention that they hope to link all of our shower necessities to the electronic system, to include your soap and loofa!

Hamwells has raised nearly a million euros in funding and are currently initiating a seed round to further their e-shower innovations. Additionally, they have signed letters of intent from major hotel chains and are building the showers as we speak. The shower even connects to your phone so you can see your monthly savings.

While they haven't yet solved the e-conditioner/e-shampoo dispenser or e-loofa problem, we can rest safe in the knowledge that Hamwells is on the road to connecting all of our bathroom activity to the Internet. All of it!
